Lonegan Demands Gottheimer Apologize for Bigoted Anti-Catholic Comment

Attack on Catholics for their pro-life views a “horrible insult”

Township of Washington, N.J. – Steve Lonegan is demanding that Representative Josh Gottheimer apologize for his campaign’s anti-Catholic comment made after the campaign’s pro-life event in Fair Lawn yesterday.

In a remark to the New Jersey Globe, the Gottheimer campaign accused anyone who defends all lives of unborn children as an extremist.

“Josh Gottheimer should come forward right now and apologize for his campaign’s horrible insult to members of the Catholic faith. Catholics believe that all innocent unborn lives deserve full protection. That is a tenet of the Catholic faith,” said Lonegan.“Catholics do not need to be lectured to and demeaned by someone who supports aborting babies up through the ninth month of pregnancy and who voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would afford babies born alive during an abortion the same rights as any other baby born alive.”

Lonegan noted that the Knights of Columbus, of which he is a member, have donated millions to aid women's health care in America.  Through their Culture of Life program, the Knights of Columbus has provided $44 million in private, non-taxpayer funding to provide 900 ultrasound machines in pregnancy care centers in all 50 states.

“Josh Gottheimer is the extremist when it comes to the life issue, not members of the Catholic faith. To attack Catholics for their views on protecting innocent life is twisted and despicable. Catholics throughout District 5 should be appalled that this is how their own congressman thinks of them.”
