The Jewish Voice and Opinion Endorses Steve Lonegan
In issuing the endorsement, Susan L. Rosenbluth, editor of The Jewish Voice and Opinion, said of Mayor Lonegan:
“Mr. Lonegan…has a long history of concern for our issues and actions that have gone well beyond the call of duty.”
“…He also has a long history of support for Israel as a Jewishstate and the right of all Jews to live anywhere they choose in the state, including in the communities located in Judea and Samaria beyond the so-called ‘Green Line.’”
“We have no doubt that, in Congress, Mr. Lonegan will continue to represent us and all his Fifth District constituents just as eloquently and cogently. We urge all Republicans registered to vote in the upcoming GOP primary to cast their ballots for Mr. Lonegan.”
Mayor Lonegan issued the following statement upon receiving the endorsement:
“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement from The Jewish Voice and Opinion; it is an endorsement I take very seriously.”
“The recent events in Syria are another reminder of the volatility in the Middle East, and the constant threats the State of Israel faces every single day from despots across the region.
“Now more than ever, America’s commitment to the only free and democratic state in the Middle East must be unequivocal and unwavering. When I am in Congress, I can assure the Israeli people that they will have no greater friend and that I will do everything in my power to ensure the security of Israel for generations to come.”

It is with great pleasure that The Jewish Voice and Opinion and TheJewishVoiceAndOpinion.com announces its endorsement of Steve Lonegan, Republican candidate for Congress for NJ’s Fifth District.
Members of the pro-Israel community, like most Americans, have extensive experience with politicians who know how to mouth pleasant sentiments when they are running for office and quickly forget about them once elections are over. Not so with Mr. Lonegan, who has a long history of concern for our issues and actions that have gone well beyond the call of duty.
As a public official, he has demonstrated time and again his support for Sabbath-observant Jews to enjoy the benefits of an eruv, the symbolic boundary that allows them to carry on Friday nights and Saturdays. He also has a long history of support for Israel as a Jewish state and the right of all Jews to live anywhere they choose in the state, including in the communities locatedi n Judea and Samaria beyond the so-called “Green Line.”
In this spirit, as mayor of Bogota, Mr. Lonegan led his town to forge a sister-city relationship with the Samarian-Jewish community of Beit El.
When visiting Israel, Mr. Lonegan told the residents of Beit El, Hebron, and the eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem that it was “inconceivable” that Jews should be forbidden to reside there. He pointed out that every state in the United States has a town, county, street, or school named “Bethel.”
“If anyone were to suggest that Jews could not live in Bethel in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, or Oregon, there would be condemnation all around. Why then should there even be a discussion about whether Jews should live in the original Beit El,” he said.
We have no doubt that, in Congress, Mr. Lonegan will continue to represent us and all his Fifth District constituents just as eloquently and cogently. We urge all Republicans registered to vote in the upcoming GOP primary to cast their ballots for Mr. Lonegan.
